Learning together as people take the lead in their lives, creating new opportunities to connect within their communities.

Our Kaupapa

“Learning together as people take the lead in their lives, creating new opportunities to connect within their communities.”
Twenty-five years on we are still committed to working alongside disabled people as they take control and live their lives as they choose.
The key to achieving social change is building relationships and working with our communities.

Our Values

Three beliefs are at the core of everything we do:

  • Social justice
  • Inclusiveness
  • A sense of belonging is essential to wellbeing

At Tautoko Options, we are passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives
and building welcoming communities. We believe people are happier when they work and live connected to others. We celebrate diversity in our workplace and our communities.

We developed our values model, Te Kauri, with the knowledge given to us by our Ngāti Toa Rangatira Kaumātua.

Five values guide us in all areas of our work-with people receiving support, within our teams and communities.

Whakapapa

Place layer upon layer
We take time to listen to people-their life experiences, knowledge, identity, and their future dreams. This helps us walk alongside people with more understanding.

Whanaungatanga

to bring people together
We provide opportunities to bring people together to build connections. Sharing experiences and common interests can build a sense of belonging, which is key to wellbeing.

Manaakitanga

to build on strength, abilities and skills

We focus on respecting the person and the people in their lives, creating space where they can develop their self-confidence. We look for opportunities where strengths and skills can be shared and people also get to give back.

Whakaaroaro

to ponder, give thought to, reflect on

We build in opportunities for reflection and evaluation across all areas of our work-for individuals, team members and teams. This is how we learn and develop.

Āhurutanga

creating a safe place to be part of
We endeavour to create a space where all people feel safe, comfortable, and valued as we work with individuals and groups, by making space for honest feedback.

The way we do things!

“A person-centred culture has people at its heart
both people it serves
and people it employs.”

This approach helps us think together

For individuals:
  • How do you want to live and be supported?
  • How can you have more choices and control?
  • What’s important to you?
  • What do you want our role to be?
  • How can we keep learning together to provide the best support?
For people working for us:
  • What do they need to do their best work?
  • What are their gifts and strengths to create the best match for people they are working with.
  • How our teams keep learning, what to build on, and identifying what to change?

Self-Management

Working toward a shared purpose, we are constantly changing and adapting as we respond to what we are learning from each other.

We have organized ourselves into self-managing teams, where everyone is invited to develop their skills and try new things.
